THE SURGEON

Dr. Vishal Banthia

Double Board-Certified. Stanford and UCSF-Trained.

Dr. Banthia is board-certified in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. He earned his medical degree at UCSF and trained at Stanford and at NewYork-Presbyterian, the university hospitals of Columbia and Cornell. Together, that training informs how he thinks about the way a face works as much as the way it looks.

His practice is limited to facelift, neck lift, eyelid surgery, and rhinoplasty. He leads the consultation, plans the operation, and performs it. He is a member of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Medical Association, and the California Medical Association, and is affiliated with Scripps La Jolla and Scripps Encinitas.

Not everyone should have surgery.

Some consultations end with a recommendation not to operate, and the reasoning is explained either way.

A consultation here does not always end with a surgical plan. Dr. Banthia will tell you what an operation can reasonably change, what it cannot, and whether surgery is the right answer for the thing that is actually bothering you. If the benefit does not justify the recovery, he will say so, and you will not be asked to book anything.

When it is the right answer, Dr. Banthia does the operating himself, and he operates to the plan he described in the consultation.

The goal is that no one can tell.

Most people who come in are not asking to look like someone else. They want to stop looking tired on days they feel fine. Dr. Banthia plans each operation around the proportions already in front of him.

FACE & NECK LIFTING

A jaw and neck that read cleaner. Nothing that reads pulled.

The worry almost everyone brings to a facelift is coming out looking tight, or windblown, or faintly surprised. A facelift and a neck lift can restore definition under the chin and along the jawline, and how natural the result looks depends on how carefully the operation is fitted to the face it is being done on. Dr. Banthia plans each one around the patient's own anatomy, aiming for a result that reads rested rather than worked on.

RHINOPLASTY

Breathing and appearance, planned together.

Because the nose affects both facial proportion and breathing, Dr. Banthia assesses its appearance, its structure, and how it works in the same consultation rather than treating them as separate problems. He treats primary, revision, ethnicity-specific, and functional rhinoplasty, fitting the operation to the patient's anatomy and to what they came in wanting to change.

EYES & FACIAL BALANCE

For when you look tired and you aren't.

Heavy upper lids can make the eyes look tired on days a patient feels rested. Upper eyelid surgery removes the excess tissue causing that weight while preserving the shape and character that make the eyes recognizably theirs. A low brow can contribute to the same complaint, and Dr. Banthia will say plainly whether eyelid surgery on its own is likely to be enough.
